European Travel during a Pandemic
Like many Motorhome families, actually many UK families, we started 2020 with grand plans for the Summer. We had booked our ferry trip from Plymouth to Santander back in 2019 and our original Plan A was to spend about a month exploring Morocco with a week either side to adventure in Portugal and Spain. Then the Covid-19 global pandemic hit.
For a longtime we waited for our crossing to be cancelled by Brittany Ferries, but that didn't happen. Eventually they offered us a change of date but we were in no rush to make any changes, we decided to sit back and watch the situation unfold. Less than 2 weeks before our planned departure date the UK started opening up travel corridors, and with just 1 week before the school holidays started we finally made the decision to head into Europe!
Knowing that Morocco was still in a very strict lockdown we made a Plan B. The new plan was to explore Spain, and if/when Portugal were added to the safe travel corridor, we would cross the boarder to explore the Atlantic coast. Portugal never made it on to the safe list, and while we were in Span the number of covid cases began to spike. As France has only ever been a "through route" to us, Plan C evolved to include a month exploring France. Plan D cut short our French adventure as we escaped the worrying Covid-19 increases and the imminent removal of France from the Safe Air Corridor List.
We did manage to spend a fabulous couple of weeks in both Spain and then France, and this summer trip was a real turning point for the Roaming Radfords. We had only recently set up our YouTube channel and the Summer trip gave us a fantastic opportunity to start making the kind of travel content that we enjoy watching.
Below are the first "real" travel vlogs created by the Roaming Radfords.
